Round Mountain is the second oldest town in Blanco County, Texas. Originally, Round Mountain formed as a community in the late 1840s and early 1850s as a mail route and stage and freight stop between Austin and Fredericksburg. By virtue of the town’s strategic location, there sprang up various businesses to include a hotel, stable, grist mills, cotton gins, assorted warehouses, a school, two churches and blacksmith’s shop. Round Mountain established a U.S. Post office on June 28, 1857.
Round Mountain is located at the gateway of the Highland Lakes recreational chain. A little town with a big heart, Round Mountain continues to be progressive in nature and thrives with a population of nearly 200. The community includes subdivisions of prime hill country with majestic and panoramic acreage, as well as a natural environment supporting wildlife and fauna. Incorporated in 1989 as a City, Round Mountain supports a rural lifestyle, features no City property tax, and is a place where families can raise their children with good moral values and character or equally a great choice for retirement.
