The City of Florence, founded in the 1850s, was originally called Brooksville. Early settlers later renamed the town Florence when the first post office was established.
Located in northwest Williamson County, Florence is 13 miles west of Georgetown, 22 miles south of Fort Hood and 40 miles north of Austin. The City of Florence sits along State Highway 195, which serves as a thoroughfare for commuters traveling form the Austin metro area to Fort Hood.
