Seton invents first med device, a ringless needle holder for surgeons, promises more to come
Seton Healthcare Family, the Austin-based hospital and clinic network, is venturing into the medical device world.
Clinicians with the faith-based nonprofit system said Tuesday that they have pioneered a ringless needle holder. The creation and proliferation of such health-related devices is expected to play a pivotal role in an envisioned “innovation district” near the new Dell Medical School and Dell Seton Medical Center.
Medical Innovation Labs, an Austin medical device company, has signed an exclusive licensing agreement to turn the new tool into a commercial product and market it. The incubator was launched in 2014 to help entrepreneurs develop their ideas.
