GVTC Gigabit-speed fiber Internet roars way out in Texas Hill Country town of Boerne

While many Austinites are still waiting eagerly for super-fast Internet speeds to be marketed to them by Google Inc. and others, a small town deep in the Central Texas Hill Country is already wallowing in such service — and expects to be an “all-fiber city” next year.

Internet service provider GVTC Inc., previously known as the Guadalupe Valley Telephone Cooperative Inc., continues to expand gigabit speed fiber Internet across the city of Boerne, which is about 90 miles southwest of Austin. The company is now marketing the service to about 4,500 households and 500 businesses and aims to complete the $1.8 million expansion by 2017.
