PEC surpasses 270,000 active accounts
Pedernales Electric Cooperative reached a growth milestone in July, hitting the 270,000 active account mark. These active accounts are held by approximately 228,000 Co-op members with PEC electric meters or area lights — members can have multiple accounts.
Following installation of the first PEC meter on Oct. 31, 1939, it took more than 42 years for the Co-op to reach 50,000 accounts, hitting that milestone in November 1981. Only 13 years later, in November 1994, PEC reached 100,000 accounts.
Then, as members continued to flock to the beautiful Texas Hill Country, PEC account growth begin to skyrocket. After taking more than 55 years to hit 100,000 accounts, the Co-op reached the 200,000-account milestone only 11 years later in November 2005. Seven and a half years following that, the Co-op surpassed 250,000 accounts in May 2013.
Of the 24 counties PEC serves, Williamson County has the most accounts at 74,269, while San Saba County has the fewest accounts — one.
The tables below outline PEC account milestones over the years, as well as the Co-op's active accounts per county as of early August.
