May 21 conference to discuss San Marcos’ economic future
The Greater San Marcos Partnership will host influential economist Ray Perryman May 21 during the annual San Marcos Economic Outlook, where Perryman and other speakers will discuss the Texas economy with a focus on the San Marcos region.
GSMP President Adriana Cruz said San Marcos is an up-and-coming area, and the event—to be held at the Embassy Suites San Marcos Hotel, Spa & Conference Center—gives practical information about what the region’s economy might look like in the future.
“[The Economic Outlook] helps to keep our small business owners, our business people, our entrepreneurs with their finger on the pulse of what’s going on,” Cruz said.
Perryman has been recognized by the Democracy Foundation for his efforts in promoting capitalism in mainland China, the Asia and World Institute for promotion of international academic exchange and the Systems Research Foundation for his work in the economic modeling field.
The event will also feature a panel of local entrepreneurs and community members including representatives from EPIC Piping, which recently opened in the former Butler Manufacturing facility off I-35 in north San Marcos, Texas State University and Walton Development.
“This will be the first opportunity for [entrepreneurs] to hear from an expert economist what the future potentially holds,” Cruz said. “And then from those companies and firms that have been investing in the city of San Marcos … what did they see? Why did they choose to invest?”
Cruz said she is expecting the event to sell out this year.
