Company to open manufacturing facility in San Marcos creating 350 jobs

December 17, 2014 – SAN MARCOS, TX – The Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP), the economic development organization for the City of San Marcos, Hays County and Caldwell County, today announced that United WELD Operations, LLC, will launch its operation Spring of 2015 in San Marcos, Texas, creating 350 jobs over ten years with a median wage of $20.50 per hour or greater than $40,000 per year. The 221,500 square-foot facility will be located at 2301 N IH-35, the former Butler Manufacturing Facility which has been vacant since December 2013.  The company has committed significant investment capital and expects to begin operations in Spring 2015.

Regarding the decision to locate United WELD Operations, LLC’s facility in San Marcos, Greater San Marcos Partnership President Adriana Cruz remarked:

“This is a great opportunity for San Marcos. The facility will be one of the largest, most advanced industrial manufacturing facilities in the region and bring significant career opportunities, workforce development and sustained economic growth to San Marcos. For United WELD Operations, LLC, accessibility to IH-35 was one of the most important factors in their location search. San Marcos’ proximity to the major highway and the availability of the building, in conjunction with the city’s high quality of life and unparalleled workforce, made it stand out. We look forward to seeing their investment here benefit the working families of San Marcos.”

GSMP staff worked with the company’s representatives to provide information and make connections for workforce recruitment and training partners as well as provide information on the current workforce and industry trends in San Marcos.

Yesterday, the San Marcos City Council approved an Economic Development Incentive Agreement with United WELD Operations, LLC, and its affiliated entities, providing incentives in the form of annual refunds of 80 percent of ad valorem taxes generated from newly added real and personal property over ten years.

“We commend and congratulate the San Marcos City Council for their decision to approve an agreement for United WELD Holdings, LLC. This is a company that will bring great jobs to San Marcos and fill a vacant building at the gateway of this city.”

Including United WELD Holdings, LLC, since the formation of GSMP in October 2010, the Partnership staff has worked 241 projects or requests for information (RFI) resulting in 22 announcements, 1,272 jobs announced and more than $29 million in capital investment.
